The detailed program

Day 1 : Yangon Arrival

 

Welcome to Myanmar! You will arrive in the former capital of Yangon. This bustling city is the largest city in the country and provides a great introduction to the country’s rich history and culture. It is located along the Irrawaddy River, the largest and most famous river in Myanmar. Today we will visit many beautiful and important sites in the city including the famous Shwedagon Pagoda, which is breath-taking at sunset and a 70-meter-long reclining Buddha statue at the Kyauktatgyi Pagoda.

Day 2 : Yangon – Bagan

After breakfast, you will hop on a flight to Bagan where you will be awestruck by the sight of over 2,000 pagodas blanketing the flat plains.  It is truly a sight to behold from the air and will become even more enchanting when you explore them by bicycle or horse-drawn carriage. We will first visit a temple to enjoy the panoramic views from the terrace and then we will continue on to the Shwezigon Pagoda and the Nyaung Oo Ananda Temple. Next, we will continue on to the village of Myinkaba to visit the Gubyaukgyi Temple and a few other smaller temples. Here, you will be able to visit lacquerware shops where you can admire, or perhaps purchase, some of the fine handicrafts that Myanmar is known for. In the late afternoon, you will enjoy a private sunset cruise along the river. This is a beautiful experience as there are many ancient pagodas along the riverfront as well as local villages.

Overnight in Bagan

Day 2 : Yangon – Bagan

Day 3 : Bagan

The day will start with a visit to the morning market in Nyaung Oo village.  We will then drive through the temple plains to the village of Minnanthu, a less-visited village, and visit the Payathonzu Temple, the Lemyentha Temple, the Nandamannya Temple, and the Kyat Khayon Cave Monastary which is an important meditation center. The day will end with a horse-drawn carriage ride through the temple plains to watch the sunset.

Day 4 : Bagan – Mandalay

In the morning, we will fly to Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar. Our first stop upon arrival will be to the Mahamuni Pagoda which has a stunning, golden Buddha statue. Mandalay is also famous for local handicrafts and we will visit a traditional workshop to see how traditional techniques are still being used. The Kuthodaw Pagoda is home to the “World’s Largest Book” which is comprised of 729 marble slabs with Buddhist teachings inscribed on them. Afterwards, we will visit Shwezigon Monastery, the “Golden Monastery,” which is the only one that remains of the royal court from the 19th century. Before the sun sets, we will visit Shwe Kyin Monastery which is a great place to end the day and observe the monks’ procession and the novice monks’ evening chants.

Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 4 : Bagan – Mandalay

Day 5 : Mandalay – Sagaing – Ava – Amarapura

 

South of Mandalay are the hills of Sagaing, a Buddhist center of Myanmar and home to 3,000 nuns and monks and 100 meditation shrines. Here we will visit Soon Oo Pon Nya Shin and U Min Thonze Pagodas and then carry on to a small pottery village to learn about the local handicrafts. Afterwards, we will continue on to Ava, a former capital from the 14th to 19th centuries. We will then take a short excursion riding on a traditional horse-drawn carriage to visit different local monuments. We will then head to Amarapura, the former royal capital! Our first stop will be at a weaving shop known for its unique productions. We will then visit Mahagandayon Monastery. We will end our day by enjoying the sunset at U Bein Bridge, a famous landmark in Myanmar.

Day 6 : Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake

In the morning, we will take a flight to Heho. It is a 1 hour scenic drive to Nyaung Shwe, the gateway to Inle Lake. Along the way, we will stop at the Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery which is built from teak wood. When we arrive at Inle Lake, a boat will be awaiting us to take us on a 1 hour long ride through small waterways that lead to Indein, a Pa-Oh village. Upon arrival, we will explore the village and climb a hill to view the ruins of hundreds of stupas dotting the landscape that surrounds the lake.

Day 6 : Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake

Day 7 : Inle Lake – Yangon

In the morning, we will visit the market which is well-known for changing locations every five days. Afterwards, we will visit the famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, whose name means “Center of the Lake” and the Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, that used to be famous for jumping cats!  Now, there are only a few cats left and they don’t jump anymore! Then, we are off to Heho by private car to catch a flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free.

Day 8 : Yangon – Bangkok – Koh Samui

After breakfast, you will fly to Koh Samui via Bangkok.

Upon arrival, a transfer to your hotel will be provided by a private car.

Day 9 – 11 : Koh Samui

You will have the a few days to relax on the beach and to enjoy the crystal clear water. Koh Samui is a beautiful island with stunning postcard views of palm trees, blue water, and powdery white sand.

Day 12 : Koh Samui – Bangkok – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Bangkok and then you will carry on with your international departure.

ALTERNATIVE TO KOH SAMUI:  Instead of a flight, you can take a 3 to 4 hour drive to Hua Hin from Bangkok and enjoy relaxing beach time there and stay overnight there as well.

Day 12 : Koh Samui – Bangkok – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to Bangkok and then you will carry on with your international departure.

ALTERNATIVE TO KOH SAMUI:  Instead of a flight, you can take a 3 to 4 hour drive to Hua Hin from Bangkok and enjoy relaxing beach time there and stay overnight there as well.
