Tourism News: Mandalay attracts more tourists
Tourist arrivals to Mandalay have increased due to an expansion of Mandalay international flights.
Mandalay International Airport located 35 km south of Mandalay in Tada-U, is one of only three international airports in Myanmar. Opened in September 2000, the terminal has the capacity to handle 1000 passenger arrivals and 1000 departures per hour, totaling up to 3 million per year. With the expansion, that can now be raised to 15 million passengers a year. The joint firms had undertaken the operation, rehabilitation and maintenance of airport facilities, including terminal buildings and runway around March 2015. The agreement aims to generate further expansion of domestic and international flights to Mandalay and to increase passenger traffic through the airport.
Today tourists’ arrival has now increases due to the expansion of the operation, specifically through the routes of Mandalay, Bangkok, Yangon and Hong Kong .Mandalay hosted total of over 374,200 tourists from January to October this year, mostly from China, Thailand, India, Singapore and Vietnam. Tourists from Japan, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States also visited Mandalay.
