Explore the quintessential Myanmar in a breath-taking tour of this stunning country. Starting in Yangon with its dramatic pagodas and bustling markets we will make our next stop in Bagan, surrounded by awe-inspiring plains. From here we will travel to Mandalay to see the incredible “Buddhist Bible.” After a trip around three of Myanmar’s past capitals enjoying the numerous Buddhist monasteries and pagodas, it will be time to see the astonishing bell in Mingun. Weighing over 90 tons, this is the second-largest bell in the world that still rings! Before returning to Yangon you will be astonished by the bizarre leg-rowers and delightful floating gardens of Inle Lake.

The detailed program

Day 1 : Yangon Arrival

Mingalabar and welcome to Myanmar! Your holiday begins in Yangon, the country’s largest city and former capital. A guided orientation tour will introduce you to the rich history, spiritualism, and culture of Myanmar. You’ll visit the massive reclining Buddha at Kyauktatgyi Pagoda, the peaceful Kandawgyi Park with its glittering royal barge and the Shwedagon Pagoda–Myanmar’s holiest monument. There will also be a chance to visit a tea shop and the bustling Chinatown where you will meet with friendly locals and enjoy traditional snacks.

Overnight in Yangon

Day 2 : Yangon – Bagan

Fly upcountry to Bagan, home to more than 2,000 religious monuments. Today is spent exploring the many monuments which vary in style and historical importance. The four standing Buddhas at the Ananda Temple, the gilded Shwezigon Pagoda, and the enormous, haunted Dhammayangyi are just some of the highlights of today’s visit. You will also have time to visit villages and observe local artisans such as Bagan’s famous lacquerware workshops.

Day 2 : Yangon – Bagan

Fly upcountry to Bagan, home to more than 2,000 religious monuments. Today is spent exploring the many monuments which vary in style and historical importance. Day 3 : Bagan – Mandalay

Continue your exploration of Myanmar with a morning flight to Mandalay. The buzzing city is quite a contrast from sleepy Bagan but holds a wealth of sites to see. Start your visit with a panoramic view of the city from the top of Mandalay Hill and then continue to the “World’s Biggest Book–” at the Kuthodaw Pagoda, the remarkable Shwesandaw Monastery, and the gilded Mahamuni Buddha image. There is time to visit local craft workshops– utilizing techniques dating back hundreds of years– before capping off the day by watching the sun set near the famous U Bein Bridge.

Overnight in Mandalay

Day 4 : Mandalay – Sagaing – Mingun – Mandalay

Start the day the local way with a visit to the bustling fresh market where produce and other items are sold in the early morning hours. Today you’ll venture further away from Mandalay to the town of Sagaing, the Buddhist center of Myanmar. Explore the many sites and gain a deeper understanding of Buddhism before continuing upriver to Mingun. Gaze in awe at the massive brick Mingun Pagoda, the painted white Hsinbyume Pagoda and the world’s second-largest functioning bell. A relaxing Irrawaddy River cruise will take you back to Mandalay in the late afternoon.

Day 4 : Mandalay – Sagaing – Mingun – Mandalay

Start the day the local way with a visit to the bustling fresh market where produce and other items are sold in the early morning hours. Today you’ll venture further away from Mandalay to the town of Sagaing, the Buddhist center of Myanmar. Explore the many sites and gain a deeper understanding of Buddhism before continuing upriver to Mingun. Day 5 : Mandalay – Heho – Inle Lake

Today you will travel onwards to Inle Lake, one of Myanmar’s most impressive natural sites. Spend the day on a long-tailed motorboat to discover the lake and learn about the Inthar– the lake’s local residents– and their culture. Witness the unique leg-rowing techniques of the Inthar fishermen, venture through villages with houses on stilts, see holy pagodas, and witness skilled craftsmen making everything from silks to boats and cigars to silver products.

Day 6 : Inle Lake – Indein

Another full day on the lake starts with a visit to the morning market. Continue to a small village famed for its crispy fried snacks and stroll around stopping to sample the freshly fried treats. Then travel south along the lake and through a narrow canal to the stupa-covered hill of Indein. Enjoy the views from the top of the hill with great views of the lake and then go on a short hike to a local village.

Day 6 : Inle Lake – Indein

Another full day on the lake starts with a visit to the morning market. Continue to a small village famed for its crispy fried snacks and stroll around stopping to sample the freshly fried treats. Then travel south along the lake and through a narrow canal to the stupa-covered hill of Indein. Enjoy the views from the top of the hill with great views of the lake and then go on a short hike to a local village.

Day 7 : Inle Lake – Heho – Yangon

Your Myanmar holiday comes to an end today. A morning flight takes you back to Yangon where there is time for some last-minute shopping or sight-seeing before catching your outbound flight.

(Note: In Yangon, the car and guide will be at your disposal up until your flight’s departure time)
