Hot-Air Balloon Ride over Bagan

It’s an early start today, rising before the sun comes up. However, it is well worth the effort as this morning you will have the chance to experience a hot-air balloon ride over Bagan’s temple-filled plains.

Watching the magic happen in Bagan

You will be picked up at the hotel and driven to a field where the pilots, crew, and balloons will be waiting. Join other passengers for a cup of tea or coffee as the team makes the final preparations for the morning’s launch. Watching this take place just steps away from you is sure to get you excited about the upcoming flight.

Making lifetime memories in Myanmar

Once the balloon is prepared, the pilot will introduce himself or herself and provide a detailed safety briefing. As the first light of dawn appears over the horizon, climb into the basket, and lift off. The balloon will slowly gain elevation and you will soon pop above the tree line, getting your first panoramic look at Bagan. Above the ground, the silence of the sky is only disrupted by the occasional firing of the burner which the pilot will use to guide the balloon.

One of the best sunrises in the world

Over the next 30-60 minutes you will soar around Bagan, capturing bird’s-eye views of the temples as well as the surrounding villages and the glimmering Irrawaddy River. The pilot will act as a guide, sharing the names of famous monuments, pointing out small farms and sharing more information about what you are seeing from up high. Your pilot will also be happy to answer any questions about the actual flying of the balloon–a process unlike any other!

Although the balloon baskets can hold up to 16 people, you will be in a small compartment with a maximum of three other guests. There is plenty of room to move around, ensuring that you get 360-degree views of Bagan and its surroundings. The pilot will also, should the winds allow, change elevations throughout the flight to give you both up-close and distant viewpoints.
