You will depart from Mandalay in the morning for a picturesque four hour drive to Kyauk Me. The road winds its way up north towards China and climbs steadily in elevation. This area of the Shan State is spectacular with lush fields and towering mountains, earning it the nickname ‘Little Switzerland’. Upon arrival take a short orientation walking tour of the town. Taking in the rustic ambiance on foot is a must when being in this town which has a mix of colonial, Myanmar and Chinese architecture.

After your breakfast, a tuktuk will drive up north for 2 hours crossing Mine Dine village, a view point and Loi Gon, where you will stop for a tea while enjoying the view on the villages. After another 15 minute ride you will leave the main road to start trekking to Hu Kwat village. From there you will hike to the village of Hu Sun where you’ll be welcomed by a local family for the night. Take a walk in this lovely village and watch a beautiful sunset from the upper hill.

After a simple but good breakfast prepared by your family, say goodbye to your host and walk south to Loi Lon. From there, youwill walk on a flat trail for 30 minutes to Bang San where you will have a tea. Having reached NaunPyaet, you have lunch in a local house there. Continue to Hu Kwat, where the tuktuk will be waiting for you and will drive you to Ban Lin AndNaung Sin before getting back on the main road and driving south to Kyauk Me. If time allows, your guide will drive you to a lovely bamboo bridge where you can watch the locals going home after a work day in their fields.

After breakfast take a walk through the morning market. This atmospheric street market is open every day and attracts many local residents as well as traders from the region. Then you will be transferred to the train station for an enchanting 4 hour train journey on the Mandalay-Lashio train passing by villages and railway bazaars that float by the carriage windows in a timeless fashion.The train also traverses the renowned Gokteik Bridge, which was built in the 1900’s by the well-known Pennsylvania Steel Company when Burma was part of India. In the afternoon you will reach Pyin Oo Lwin, where you will stay for the night.

This morning set off on a traditional horse and carriage outing around town. Admire the brick and timber houses, complete with English style gables, turrets and chimneys and feel like you are taken back in time. You should also go to the local market to gaze at the various flowers and vegetables they have there. Check out the Botanical Gardens sporting around and don’t forget to stop by at the notorious Candacraig Hotel which was constructed in 1904 and is the eldest hotel in all of Myanmar. Continue by road to Mandalay (2 hours) where you will be dropped at your hotel.
