Day 1

Yangon Mahabandoola ParkArrival Yangon – Mingalabar Myanmar

Arrival in Yangon according to individual flight schedule.

Mingalabar and welcome to Myanmar! The former capital Yangon, also known as Rangoon, has a rich colonial background and religious legacy making it one of the most mesmerizing and genuine places in all of Southeast Asia. Upon arrival at the airport you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to you hotel for check in. At 16.00 meet your guide and group in the hotel lobby and set off on a walking tour of downtown, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere, learning about the city’s history and discovering the local culture.

Lunch on own account. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2

Inle Lake Leg Rowing FishermanYangon – Heho – Inle Lake

Fly north to Inle Lake this morning, leaving the busy city and traveling to the hills of the Shan State. Upon reaching the lake take a boat trip, passing by floating gardens and villages built on stilts as you travel along the tranquil waters.  Stop to see famous pagodas, watch the agile leg-rowing fishermen and visit incredible craft workshops where items such as lotus silk is woven. Return to your hotel before sunset.

Day 3

Morning Market Inle LakeInle Lake – Indein

Continue exploring Inle Lake today, starting with a visit to the morning market where an array of goods and produce are sold. The next stop is Indein, a Pa-oh village located at the end of a long, winding canal on the lake’s western edge. Take a short hike to the top of the hill to admire the hundreds of stupa ruins, many of which are overgrown with foliage and vines,  and see fabulous views of the lake. Return across the lake to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 4

Pindaya CaveInle Lake – Pindaya

Start the morning with a short walk through Kaung Daine, a lakeside village famous for its tofu and chick pea products. Then take a scenic 3-hour drive to Pindaya. Pindaya is set in a valley in the Shan Hills and home to the Danu ethnic group.  Explore the town’s market as well as the famed ‘Buddha Caves’, a natural limestone cave with thousands of Buddha statues inside. Continue to a nearby tea plantation run by a local family to learn more about the process of growing tea as well as the various ways it is processed in to salad.

Day 5

Shan State SceneryPindaya – Mandalay

Leave the hills of the Shan State today and head to the flat lands of central Myanmar. As you drive to Mandalay the scenery changes from dramatic mountains to plains and rice paddies. Arrive in Mandalay in the late afternoon. Mandalay is the last of Myanmar’s royal capitals and still holds on to these royal traditions despite being a busy, commercial city.

Day 6

U Bein Bridge MyanmarMandalay – Amarapura

The morning starts with a visit to the north of the city near the base of Mandalay hill. Visit Kuthodaw Pagoda with its 729 inscribed marble slabs, the impressive marble Buddha at Kyauktawgyi Pagoda and the 19th-century teak Shwenandaw Monastery which features incredible woodcarvings. This afternoon stop at Mandalay’s most revered site, the Mahamuni Pagoda where the Buddha image appears ‘lumpy’ due to its numerous layers of gold leaf. The last stop of the day is Amarapura which twice stood as the royal capital and is home to the famous 1.2 km-long U Bein teak bridge. Enjoy watching the sun set at the bridge before returning to your hotel for the evening.

Day 7

Bagan-SceneryMandalay – Bagan

Start the day at the Irrawaddy riverside, a bustling hive of activity as boats are unloaded and the goods transported to markets around the city. From there, embark on the drive to Bagan (approx. 5 hours) stopping en route at Paleik which features old Ava-era stupas and a bizarre ‘snake washing’ python temple. In the late afternoon, arrive in Bagan, one of the greatest architectural sites in Asia. The remainder of the day is free to explore some of the 4000 pagodas on your own.

Day 8

Bagan Sunset Irrawaddy RiverBagan

Enjoy a full day discovery tour of Bagan. Begin with a visit to the colorful morning market then  proceed to the temple plains to discover some of the most famous monuments in Bagan including Ananda, Manuha and many others. A stop will also be made in a lacquerware workshop where you can see the traditional process of making and decorating various lacquered products. The day comes to a close with a sunset boat trip on the, capturing scenes of life on the river as well as a different view of the Bagan monuments.

Day 9

Shwedagon Pagode YangonBagan – Yangon

A short domestic flight returns you to Yangon today where there is time for further sightseeing. See the awe-inspiring 70-metre long Buddha at Kyauktatgyi Pagoda and take a stroll through Kandawgyi Park, a leafy green oasis in the centre of the city with a large lake and views of Shwedagon Pagoda. Later in the day visit the pagoda up close, first exploring the ‘monks market’ where an array of religious items are for sale and then walking up to Shwedagon’s platform. Stare in awe at the gold-covered 90-metre chedi and soak in the atmosphere as local worshippers bow in silent prayer and meditation. Shwedagon is truly a remarkable place and a memorable last stop on your Myanmar holiday.

Day 10

Little Monds SmilingYangon Departure

Today is departure day. Depending on your individual flight schedule, you may have time to visit Bogyoke Market for last minute souvenir shopping or browse some of Yangon’s art galleries. You will be transferred to the international airport in time for your onward flight.
